SHSM Arts & Culture Industry Workshop: Technical Theatre

Specialist High Skills Majors (SHSM) help students meet the requirements of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), while focusing on a career path that matches their interests and skills. Read more about SHSM here. YPT is facilitating a SHSM workshop in November, 2017 – see below for details.

Spend the day with industry professionals at YPT!

The day will start with the YPT production of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, followed by a post-show Q&A session with the cast. Students will then participate in a behind-the-scenes tour. Led by YPT staff members, the tour will look at what it takes to mount a production with visits to our Props, Wardrobe and Scene shops, the lighting and sound booth, and backstage. It will also include a history of the building and the company itself. The day will conclude with certification workshops.

Working with professional designers, carpenters and scenic artists, students will learn and practice hands-on technical theatre skills in one of the following certification workshops:

A)  Set Design

B) Scenic Carpentry

C) Scenic Painting

Where: Young People’s Theatre, 165 Front Street East, Toronto, ON M5A 3Z4

Cost: $75.00 per student (includes one certification workshop, performance, Q&A and backstage tour)

• 3:30PM End of day
