YPT is pleased to announce the participants for the second year of its Leaps and Bounds National TYA Play Creation Initiative. The partner companies and artists in 2017/18 hail from Alberta and Quebec. Over the next year, each company will explore the initial phases of creation and development that has been tailored to their individual project. Quest Theatre
King of the Castle

Alberta
King of the Castle is the story of a happy ruler of a Kingdom populated by only orange lumpy people. He believes that anyone who is different is a monster and has built a great wall to keep monsters out. It is a story that explores ignorance, privilege and what it means to be a monster. The piece is also an exploration between the intersection of puppets, mask and shadow play in a wordless format.

The Kissing Game

Kate and Sam have been best friends forever – but there’s a tension building under their relationship. When Sam witnesses Kate’s sexual assault at a party, she says she’s determined to bring Kate’s perpetrator to justice. But what kind of justice involves a live-stream of the act – and no intervention? The Kissing Game explores lateral violence, internalized misogyny, queer identity and friendship. The production will integrate the use of new media and technology in the telling of this timely story.
As part of the development process, YPT and Youtheatre will be partnering with the Banff Centre Playwrights Lab to bring The Kissing Game to the 2018 Lab.

Leaps and Bounds 2017/18
Young People’s Theatre est fier d’annoncer les participants à la deuxieme édition de Leaps and Bounds, l ‘initiative nationale de la création de theatre pour les jeunes. Pour 2017/18, les artistes et les compagnies de theâtres qui seront partenaires sur cette entreprise viennent d’Alberta et du Québec. King of the Castle est le conte d’un prince joyeux d’un royaume peuplé seulement par des individus oranges et grumeleux. Il a construit un grand mur pour garder contre les monstres et il croit que quiconque est différent est un monstre. C’est une histoire qui examine l’ignorance, le privilège et ce que cela signifie d’être un monstre. The Kissing Game

Kate et Sam sont amies depuis toujours, mais une tension est de plus en plus palpable au sein de leur relation. Lorsque Sam est témoin de l’agression sexuelle dont est victime Kate lors d’une fête, elle affirme être déterminée à porter plainte contre son agresseur. Mais quel genre de justice permet la diffusion en direct d’un crime sans intervention de la part des témoins? The Kissing Game explore la violence latérale, la misogynie intériorisée, l’identité queer et l’amitié. La production révèlera cette histoire en intégrant nouveaux médias et technologies.
Dans le cadre du processus de développement, YPT et Youtheatre seront en partenariat avec le Banff Centre Playwrights Lab, pour amener The Kissing Game au Lab 2018.
