Interactive Exhibit
Before you watch the actors create sound effects on stage, you’re invited to come to our Studio and experience our FUN WITH FOLEY Interactive Sound Effects Exhibit where you’ll have fun learning how to make sound effects yourself. With a little inspiration from a video, you will create four different sounds all on your own. Then be inspired to go home and make your own radio plays!
The exhibit is FREE! You will have 15 minutes to try all four sound effects, and to become a Foley Artist in Training!
Please Note: Admission to the exhibit requires a ticket to the day’s performance. When booking your ticket, look for the Foley Exhibit add-on in the drop down menu. If you have any questions, please contact the Box Office at yptboxoffice@youngpeoplestheatre.org.
A Little History
Before the era of television, radio plays were popular beginning in the 1920s. They were a way for families to gather and listen to detective tales, science fiction and romance stories. Radio audiences only hear the stories, so producers created sound effects – or FOLEY – so audiences felt more immersed in the environment of the story.
Usually there was one person – a FOLEY ARTIST – who created all the sound effects, but sometimes the actors would help out too as you’ll see in our holiday production. With It’s A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play, you’ll experience LIVE foley in action as each actor creates an amazing sound scape, bringing the story to life!
