RUTH ACHEAMPONG as Violet Beauregarde/Oompa Loompa
Ruth is a singer-actor from Toronto. She considers herself a crossover artist and has experience performing music theatre and classical music. Some of her favourite credits include: Shirelle/Uptown Singer in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical (Segal Centre/RMTC); Miss Stacy in Anne of Green Gables (Tweed & Co.); Irina in Lost in the Stars (Annapolis Opera); Dorinda in Handel’s Orlando (Opera McGill). As a huge fan of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Ruth is extremely excited to bring this story to the stage!
THOMAS ALDERSON, Understudy
Thomas is an actor, director, teacher and musical theatre nerd hailing from the small town of Grand Bend, Ontario. He is a graduate of Sheridan College and holds an Honours Bachelors Degree in Music Theatre Performance. Thomas’s work as a performer, director, and assistant director has taken him all over Canada and the United States. He has worked on national touring productions and on shows with many major Canadian theatre companies including: Mirvish Productions, The Stratford Festival, The Shaw Festival, The Grand Theatre, The Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre, The Globe Theatre, The Citadel Theatre, Arts Club Theatre Company, Theatre Calgary, Neptune Theatre and Drayton Entertainment, among others. Favourite roles include: Brett in Bed and Breakfast, Mordred in Camelot, Bud Frump in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Mary Sunshine in Chicago, and being part of the original Canadian company of Kinky Boots. Other favourite theatrical experiences include working as assistant to many wonderful Canadian directors including the fabulous Thom Allison.
NICK BOEGEL as Mike Teavee/Oompa Loompa
Nick (he/him) is a queer, multidisciplinary artist from North Bay, Ontario, territory of the Nipissing First Nation. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Music Theatre Performance from Sheridan College, and has been a proud member of the Toronto/GTA theatre community for the last four years, with recent credits including Outheis (Talk Is Free) and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (Mirvish). Nick’s love for theatre emerged out of a childhood obsession with imaginary worlds, and he’s thrilled to be making his YPT debut in this nostalgically playful world of Wonka!
DEANN DEGRUIJTER as Mrs. Green/Mrs. Teavee/Oompa Loompa
DeAnn is happy to be back “home” at YPT where she saw her first musical and took her first theatre class. DeAnn began her professional career with YPT’s touring company, then moved to the mainstage performing in A Gift to Last, One in a Million, Cinderella, Bunnicula, The Man Whose Mother was a Pirate and Jacob Two Two Meets the Hooded Fang. She has performed on stages large and small from coast to coast to coast, including both Stratford and Shaw Festivals, Mirvish productions, and most recently at Toronto’s Elgin Theatre in another “delicious” show, The Last Timbit! DeAnn does lots of cartoon work and especially loved her seven seasons as the voice of Mayor Goodway on Paw Patrol. When not on stage DeAnn is an experienced arts educator and Expressive Arts Facilitator, delivering workshops for seniors, kids and new Canadians. www.degroovyarts.com She loves kayaking, cats and the colour orange. 🙂
TIFFANY DERIVEAU as Grandma Georgina/Ms. Beauregarde/Oompa Loompa
Tiffany was born in Windsor, Ontario, to her proud Afro-Haitian father and her beautiful Indo-Guyanese mother, embracing a rich and diverse heritage that infuses her every performance. She is thrilled to make her YPT debut, grateful for the chance to inspire and connect with young audiences. MADELYN KRIESE, Understudy
Madelyn is a multidisciplinary artist from the beautiful west coast mountains of Vancouver, BC. She is a graduate of Sheridan College and holds an Honours Bachelors Degree in Music Theatre Performance. Madelyn is coming off of four seasons at The Shaw Festival. Highlights include playing Dainty June in Gypsy: A Musical Fable, Jean MacLaren in Brigadoon, Aravis in The Horse and His Boy, A Grand Night for Singing, The Magician’s Nephew and Grand Hotel. Other credits include La Bête and The Yalta Game (Talk Is Free Theatre); and Pure 90’s (Stage West Calgary). Film/TV includes: Skymed (Paramount+); Mayday (Cineflex); Murdoch Mysteries (CBC); Unspoken (Buffalo Gal Pictures). All of this is always on stage with her, collaborating live with the histories of other amazing players, sharing with audiences, a temporary network of souls.

LARRY MANNELL as Grandpa Joe
Born and raised in St. Catharines, but now a long time Toronto resident, Larry has been a professional actor for over 45 years. He has criss-crossed the country playing a wide range of roles, including performances for the Stratford, Shaw and Charlottetown Festivals. In Toronto, Larry was last seen in Rock of Ages at the Elgin Theatre and has previously worked with Mirvish Productions, The Musical Stage Company, Canadian Stage, Ross Petty Productions, the Canadian Opera Company and Young People’s Theatre. Larry also works regularly in film and TV and would like to acknowledge the incredible support of his long time friend and agent, Bruce Dean, proprietor of The Talent House.
ZORANA SADIQ as Mrs. Bucket/Cherry/Oompa Loompa
Zorana is a Pakistani-Canadian actor, playwright, and classical musician whose work spans different types of performance from theatre, verbatim theatre, radio and television to chamber music, modern opera and new music. A Dora-Award-winning actor and soprano, select credits include: Sultans of the Street (YPT); Armadillos (Factory Theatre); Into the Woods (STC); Wildfire (Factory Theatre); MixTape (Crow’s Theatre, The Grand, Here for Now, National Arts Centre); Towards Youth (Crow’s Theatre); CHILD-ish (Summerworks Lab); Helen’s Necklace (Canadian Rep. Theatre); Bend it Like Beckham (Starvox); The Enchanted Loom (Cahoots Theatre); Tout Comme Elle (Necessary Angel Theatre); as well as appearances with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Vancouver Symphony, Calgary Symphony, Boston Musica Viva, Banff Summer Music Festival and at the Tanglewood Music Centre. MICHAEL THERRIAULT as Willy Wonka
In Toronto, Michael played Gollum in The Lord of the Rings and Leo Bloom in The Producers (Mirvish). Other theatre credits include roles on Broadway and London’s West End as well as many seasons at both the Shaw and Stratford Festivals. Television credits include recurring roles on: Chucky, Locke and Key, Hemlock Grove, Heroes Reborn and Reign. Michael also played Tommy Douglas in the CBC mini-series: Prairie Giant: The Tommy Douglas Story. He is thrilled to be making his YPT debut.

Jeannie appeared as the Vocal Coach for CBC’s Over The Rainbow and is in demand as a Vocal Teacher, Coach and Musical Director. Shows include: Seussical (YPT); Kiss Me Kate, Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, Holiday Inn, The Drowsy Chaperone, Anything Goes, Chicago, The Wizard of Oz, Mary Poppins (Drayton Entertainment); Jersey Boys (Dancap); The Sound of Music (Mirvish); Nine, Kiss Me Kate (Theatre Sheridan); Canadian Women in Song (Angelwalk); The Full Monty (Rose Theatre); Hair (The Grand); Urinetown, Guys & Dolls, Fame, Wonderful Town, Into the Woods, The Rocky Horror Show (Randolph College); and You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown (Georgian Theatre Festival). She was Associate Music Director for the Metropolitan Community Church of Toronto (including three recordings with The Choir of MCC) for 21 years and is the current Music Director at Jubilee United Church. Jeannie has also been a keyboardist for Beauty and the Beast (YPT); Pelagie (CanStage); Billy Elliot, Mamma Mia!, Lord of the Rings and Book of Mormon (Mirvish). Jeannie studied Voice, Piano and Organ at the Western Conservatory of Music and Opera with Lois McDonall and at the American Institute for Musical Studies in Austria. She has a private studio teaching Musical Theatre, Pop and Classical voice, and is also active as a Clinician and Adjudicator.
ALEXA BELGRAVE, Musician
Pianist, music director and educator, Alexa has been an active member of Toronto’s music community for almost a decade. Upon completing her ARCT and a degree in jazz piano studies from U of T, Alexa has created and collaborated with multiple projects spanning across diverse genres and mediums. She most recently released her debut album “Let’s Talk” under her personal project, Moodset, this past March. As a musical director she has worked with Dance Immersion (winning a 2024 Dora Award for Outstanding Achievement in Design – Sound for their “Young, Gifted and Jazz” project), Nightwood Theatre, Bad Hats Theatre, Musical Stage Co, Sheridan Theatre, Obsidian and more. Alexa currently teaches at Sheridan College, Randolph College and Mayfield Secondary School of the Arts, as well as freelances in various musical roles.

ALLISON PLAMONDON, Choreographer
Originally from Edmonton, Allison’s recent theatre choreography credits include: White Christmas, Damn Yankees and Holiday Inn (Shaw Festival); and Grease (Western Canada Theatre). She also wrote, directed and choreographed And I Never Stopped Dancing (Smile Theatre). New York highlights include: Goblin Market (off-Broadway at 59E59, Edinburgh Fringe Festival); The Hills Are Alive! (NYMF); Someone To Belong To (NYC Fringe, Overall Excellence Award, Choreography); direction for A Midsummer Night’s Dream (14th St Y); and co-creation/direction/choreo for Memory Home (2019)and The Tchaikovsky Vignettes (2016), bothin residence at HB Studio. Film/TV choreography credits include the Oscar-winning short film Curfew; Before I Disappear (IFC); Believe (NBC); and Steven Soderbergh’s The Knick. Allison has shared original work at the Lincoln Center Library, Mark Morris, Gibney, fFIDA Dance Festival, Chen Dance Center, The Brick Theater and the inaugural RHI-Think initiative in Portugal. Most recently, Allison was a choreographer in residence through the National Ballet of Canada’s Open Space program. She is a member of the first all-female creative team to receive Opera America’s Robert L.B. Tobin Director-Designer prize (2021-22) for Orfeo Ed Euridice, and was the apprentice director on Orphee+ with the Edmonton Opera. As a performer, Allison has been onstage at some of North America’s most exciting venues including Madison Square Garden, La MaMa, Symphony Space, the Charlottetown Festival and the National Arts Centre. An avid teacher, Allison is passionate about sharing movement with dancers of all ages and abilities. New York teaching highlights include AMDA, Queens Theater, Tom Todoroff Conservatory, Abrons Arts Center and Broadway Dance Center. She currently teaches tap at Sheridan College. Allison completed the Uta Hagen Teacher Training at HB Studio in 2016 and is a certified GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® Trainer.
BRANDON KLEIMAN, Set Designer
Brandon is a set and costume designer based in Hamilton, with work appearing on stages across Canada. He’s had the pleasure to design at The Stratford Festival, Drayton Entertainment, Mirvish Productions, Theatre Aquarius, The Grand Theatre, Musical Stage Co., Canadian Stage Co., The Globe Theatre, Neptune Theatre and countless other independent companies across our country. Up next you can find his work in: A Christmas Story: The Musical (Theatre Aquarius); and A Christmas Carol: The Panto (Drayton Entertainment). He’ll be back in Toronto early next year with FAT HAM at Canadian Stage. Brandon is a multiple Dora Award nominee and two-time winner. Born in Singapore, Jareth is a stage designer now based in Toronto by way of Calgary. He has a love for new work that examines identity politics, culture and heritage. He is excited to be back at YPT again! CHRIS PORTER, Stage Manager
Chris is delighted to join the company of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as his first production with Young People’s Theatre. Recently Chris was at Manitoba Opera for Carmen and previous to that he was Production Stage Manager for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in Toronto. Along with numerous engagements with Mirvish Productions, Chris has also worked with the Canadian Opera Company, Ross Petty Productions, Studio 180, Soulpepper, Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre, Canadian Stage, Charlottetown Festival, Stratford Festival, Edmonton Opera, Disney Cruise Lines and Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas.
EMMANUELLE SO, Assistant Stage Manager
Emmanuelle (she/her) is a Chinese-Canadian Stage Manager, based in Toronto. She is excited to be back at YPT this season after working on The Fixing Girl earlier this year. Her Apprentice Stage Manager credits include: Of the Sea (Tapestry Opera, Obsidian); The Marriage of Figaro (Canadian Opera Company); The Ex Boyfriend Yard Sale (Never Mind the Noise, presented by Soulpepper, Outside the March and The Red Light District); Boy Falls from the Sky (Past Future Productions, Mirvish).
