We Are All Treaty People
A Forum, featuring Dr. Duke Redbird

Join us at Young People’s Theatre (165 Front Street East) on Wednesday, February 13th, 2019 from 6PM – 8PM for a forum focused on We Are All Treaty People from Quest Theatre & Making Treaty 7 Cultural Society.

About We Are All Treaty People:

Two children – one Indigenous, one white – are told by the Trickster they cannot be friends due to the terms of Alberta’s Treaty 7. But the Trickster’s words inspire them to prove him wrong. Using history, song, story, dance and puppetry, this inspiring production from Quest Theatre embraces Truth and Reconciliation, forging understanding across cultures.

Grandfather Teaching connections: Honesty – Love – Respect – Wisdom

The forum is intended for adult stakeholders in both the education and artistic communities – parents, educators, college and university students, administrators, artists and arts workers – interested in taking part in this discussion.

The forum will feature speaker Dr. Duke Redbird (Saugeen First Nation), an Indigenous intellectual, poet, painter, broadcaster, filmmaker and orator. The theme of the evening: What does “We Are All Treaty People” mean to you? Dr. Redbird will address what this phrase means to him while offering connections to the Grandfather Teachings. A panel including parents, educators and artists will reflect on Dr. Redbird’s lecture, and then the conversation will be opened up for audience members to join. Together, we will all reflect and discuss our relationship to Indigenous knowledge and what it means to the work that we do with young people.
