Q&As and Tools of the Trade

Following most of our performances here at YPT, we hold a Question and Answer (Q&A) period or a Tools of the Trade (TOTT) session in order to deepen students’ understanding of the subject of the play or of the dramatic process.

The Q&A gives students the special opportunity to speak with the cast and with members of our Education & Participation staff about the play and to ask questions about the production. Our Q&As focus on exploring more deeply the themes of the play and the questions it sparks among audience members. Each season, we work with teachers and special guests to facilitate these exciting and important discussions.

TOTT gives students insight into some of the more sophisticated technical elements of the production and provides them with the chance to learn directly from members of our Production Department about how sound and lighting effects are created and how costume, set and prop pieces are built. TOTT provides a fascinating look into the work that happens in the backstage world and how the technical elements help to tell the story.
