Playwriting Festivals for Schools

Have your students ever dreamed of seeing their own stories come to life onstage?

YPT will engage a professional playwright-in-residence at your school to support your students in writing their own short plays! Over a series of workshops, the playwright will introduce students to the fundamentals of playwriting and dramaturgy through active drama and writing exercises designed to build their skills as emerging playwrights and storytellers. Over the course of the residency, students will collaborate to write their own short plays. The residency will culminate in a playwriting festival hosted by YPT, featuring professional directors and actors bringing the students’ scripts to life through engaging staged readings of their very own plays!

The Playwriting Festival program not only supports your literacy curriculum, but is also a great way to encourage your students to discover and share their own creative voices in a fun, authentic and meaningful way.

2024.25 Playwriting Festival programs will be facilitated in-person. Recommended for Grades 4-12, and available for 2-4 classes per school. Cost varies depending on the number of participating classes and length of residency (please contact us for specifics). Limited availability for 2024.25!
