6PM-8PM
Young People’s Theatre (165 Front Street East)
Description of Selfie
The first party of the school year comes packed with expectations. It’s a time to renew old friendships and perhaps find new love. But what happens when an incident shatters the connections between three friends? Teenage relationships are complicated enough – especially when you add the reckless power of social media. This smart and intense play delves bravely into the nature of sexual consent.
The forum is intended for adult stakeholders in both the education and artistic communities – parents, educators, college and university students, administrators, artists and arts workers – interested in taking part in this discussion.
Prior to the forum, young people engaged in YPT’s Education & Participation programs generated a number of discussion points around the issues of consent. These will be the platform for the dialogue at this forum and the launch pad for discussions with subject experts in the field. Participants will learn strategies for leading conversations about consent with young people both in school and community settings. Through open exchange and dialogue, we will explore pertinent themes in the show including:
- understanding consent
- negotiating changing relationships
- accountability
