Professional Development for Teachers

“Let’s Get it Together” presented by OSSTF District 13 and Durham District School Board

In this workshop, teachers, students and members of Young People’s Theatre (YPT) will discuss the collaborative partnership between YPT and Pine Ridge Secondary School and the ways in which programming through the Member Schools program at YPT has allowed both the school and theatre to benefit. In this session, we will share a number of case studies which outline specific strategies employed to support both student and teacher learning, leadership and development in the context of arts education. We will discuss the success of a co-created student theatre youth group. We will share particular examples that speak to the value of addressing difficult and pertinent subjects in partnership with the professional arts. We will demonstrate the ways in which this work has allowed for interdisciplinary collaboration between staff and students within the school. This workshop will include a backstage tour of the theatre, an active learning session with one of YPT’s Resident Artist Educators and the opportunity to speak with industry professionals.
