Artist Residency
The Syme Woolner Family Resources Drop-In Centre provides parents and caregivers of young children (0-6 yrs old) with a dedicated drop-in area where they can interact with their children in a safe, caring, and nurturing environment. Both children and parents/caregivers are encouraged to participate in a variety of skill building and social activities that help the growth of the child. YPT provides support to the organization by facilitating a weekly artist residency for children from 0-6 years of age, with an average of 20 infants and toddlers at each session. The majority of the participants, both caregivers and children, are non-English speakers. Our 45 minute sessions take place at the centre on Mondays and explore a particular theme through reading, dramatization, song and craft making. The program seeks to enhance and integrate learning and literacy among young children by enabling the use of creativity, emotional expression and sensory stimulation.
This is a program of The Ada Slaight Education Centre at YPT, established through a generous donation from The Slaight Family Foundation and The Del Bello Family.
