Artist Residency
Through its Artist Residency, YPT supports The Syme Woolner Family Resources Drop-In Centre, which provides parents and caregivers of young children (0-6 yrs old) with a dedicated area where they can interact with their children in a safe, caring and nurturing environment. Both children and parents/caregivers are encouraged to participate in a variety of skill building and social activities that help the growth of the child. YPT helps facilitate this weekly artist residency for children (there is an average of 20 infants and toddlers at each session). The majority of the participants, both caregivers and children, are non-English speakers.
Our 45 minute sessions take place at the centre on Mondays and explore a particular theme through reading, dramatization, song and craft making. The program seeks to enhance and integrate learning and literacy among young children by enabling the use of creativity, emotional expression and sensory stimulation.
YPT’s Artist Residency is a program of The Ada Slaight Education Centre at YPT, established through a generous donation from The Slaight Family Foundation and The Del Bello Family.
