Play, explore, and experience a joyful song circle in a comfy space created just for YPT’s very youngest audiences! For two Fridays each month, our Studio theatre is transformed into a cozy playspace with soft surfaces, sensory-friendly toys, and activities that spark imaginative play and meaningful interactions between little ones and their grownups. Unique to this program are special 30-minute song circles that fuse music, drama, and play, led by guest artist-educators: Pete Moss and Songs with Nash.

What is open playtime?
Open playtime is a period of unstructured play where children engage in activities of their own choosing, without specific rules or guidance. It plays an important role in child development, helping to foster creativity, problem solving, social skills, and emotional regulation.

Nash harnesses the magic of music and movement to create joyful, memorable learning experiences for young children. With a background in gender and equity studies, her approach is rooted in feminism, diversity, inclusion, and social justice. She loves giving familiar songs a fresh twist with updated lyrics that reflect today’s world. Nash warmly invites everyone to get a little silly, believing that in a fun and supportive environment, kids become active learners who truly enjoy the journey. At a Songs With Nash circle time, your little one will feel safe, engaged, and have an absolute blast!

Pete Moss writes playful folk songs that celebrate birds, plants and the hidden wonders of nature. With catchy, kid-friendly tunes, and heartfelt storytelling, he inspires curiosity and connection across generations – bringing joy, ecology and a touch of magic to every performance.
