Participants will learn about the story of Seussical and work together to create new Seussical-inspired characters and worlds! \nThe workshop fee is $2 per participant. This is her fourth year as a Resident Artist Educator at Young People’s Theatre. Most recently\, she worked for 15 months as the Interim Director of YPT’s Drama School. Other roles at YPT have included assistant director of Jack and the Giant Beanstalk\, director of the Junior Ensemble\, Drama School and summer camp instructor and facilitator for both student and teacher workshops. Marjie is an active member of the Ontario College of Teachers. She works with educators to integrate drama into other subjects in the Ontario curriculum and to support social literacy in schools. She is an occasional teacher and facilitates a variety of after school drama and writing programs. Her passion is exploring ideas\, questions and social issues through drama and devising theatre with children.  She continues to perform and direct professional work for both adult and young audiences. \n

DESCRIPTION:Young People’s Theatre is partnering with The Canadian Network for Arts & Learning (CNAL) to offer this year’s Toronto Hub with professional development artist-led workshops and an introduction to our arts and learning map of Ontario. \nAline Morales\nCome and take part in a professional development session to learn exercises that can be applied to teaching arts-based activities in a variety of settings. Reconnect with peers and meet new people in a time of networking\, followed by a presentation and discussion of CNAL’s mapping project. Help guide the evolution of this exciting three-year project to map arts and learning across Ontario. \nThe Hub will start off with JUNO award-nominated singer-songwriter and percussionist Aline Morales leading participants in Brazilian call-and-response warm-ups and exercises. \nRob Kempson\nThen YPT’s resident artist educator Rob Kempson will facilitate a workshop/discussion on collective creation – where participants will use ensemble-based exercises focusing on the creation and development of new characters and original stories. \nCome take part in an interactive session\, network with new and familiar peers\, and help steer development of our collective map. Here they are creating their own script with YPT’s Resident Artist Educator Ramona Gilmour-Darling while others rehearse for their mysterious play about the Bermuda Triangle.\nYPT is running full-day workshops on PA Days in the TDSB/TCDSB for children in Grades 1-3 and 4-6. DESCRIPTION:Registration Deadline:\n4:30pm Friday\, September 2\, 2016 \nRegister online. \nCost:\n$75.00 for two days\, $50.00 for the first day only \nProgram Details:\nThe YPT Artist Educators Training is open to all artists interested in arts education and with a desire to further develop their pedagogical skills through practical training. \nThe first day is comprised of several modules\, each with a particular focus. These include: \n•      lesson planning\,\n•      fostering authentic engagement\,\n•      developing techniques for classroom management\,\n•      connecting learning to a specific text or arts experience\, and\n•      creating ensemble-based exercises. \nThe second day begins with refining the participants’ plans and culminates in putting what they have created into action by facilitating workshops for children and young people. Throughout\, participants will work alongside one another and in concert with the invited youth to reflect on what makes an engaging workshop. \nBoth novice and experienced Artist Educators are welcome. DESCRIPTION:Young People’s Theatre is delighted to extend an invitation to the community to attend our 50th Birthday Bash on Friday\, May 13th! \nJoin the party as YPT throws open its doors to welcome members of the theatre and the education communities\, along with donors\, volunteers\, Drama School alumni\, audience members past and present\, and friends from the St. Lawrence neighbourhood\, for an all-ages once-a-century celebration! \nA multitude of spaces in YPT’s historic building at 165 Front Street East will come alive with music and memorabilia from each of its five decades as you roam through transformed lobbies\, classrooms and performance spaces. \nDoors open at 6pm and the fun will begin when guests are welcomed on the Mainstage at 7pm by YPT Artistic Director Allen MacInnis and Executive Director Nancy J. Webster. Surprise featured artists will join YPT staff and friends to help celebrate this milestone. Activities for our younger guests will take place from 6pm to 9pm. Post-show\, the good times will continue around the building and well into the evening. There will even be a DJ in the 80s room spinning all your favorite tunes from the decade that everyone loves to hate. \nDelicious food and drinks will be served all evening long. DESCRIPTION:With Young People’s Theatre’s production of The Wizard of Oz as the provocation\, participants will be guided through the process of creating their own action research project. Action research is a method of inquiry that provides students with the opportunity and skills to study issues affecting their lives and to plan and implement a course of action to address them. Participants in this full-day session will work in collaboration with professional artists and members of staff to design a research plan. This will include finding a research question\, collecting data and evidence\, answering their chosen question\, presenting their research and evaluating their project.

DESCRIPTION:Spend the day with industry professionals at Young People’s Theatre! \nThe day will start with YPT’s production of The Wizard of Oz\, followed by a Tools of the Trade post-show Q&A session that deals specifically with the technical elements of the show. Students will then participate in a behind-the-scenes tour. Led by YPT staff members\, this tour will look at what it takes to mount a production and will include a history of the building and the company itself. It will include visits to our Props\, Wardrobe and Scene shops\, the lighting and soundbooth\, and backstage. This training day will culminate in certification workshops. \n \nSpace is limited. Participants will learn the step-by-step process of how to beautifully transform any object into wood\, marble or stone\, using only paint and the secrets of scenic art! \nDates:\nWed\, Apr 20th – 6:00pm to 7:00pm\nWed\, Apr 27th – 6:00pm to 7:00pm\nWed\, May 4th – 6:00pm to 7:00pm\nWed\, May 11th – 6:00pm to 7:00pm \nParticipants:\nWe welcome children and adults to attend the program. Students will be broken into smaller groups for the tours/rehearsal observations to maximize engagement. \nMember Schools\nYPT’s Member Schools program aims to create a deeper relationship between participating schools and the theatre. YPT works with school leadership to create a three-year partnership agreement specifically tailored to the aims and needs of that particular school. This session is the latest in a series of parent seminars held at YPT that offer practical skills to promote children’s well-being and improve the lives of families. \nThis seminar will engage participants in a variety of age-appropriate ways to share mindfulness practice with children and parents\, infused with principles such as acceptance\, letting go\, patience\, non-judgement\, non-striving and compassion. It will explore the intersection of mindfulness and neuroscience and offer accessible\, creative and playful ways to share this exciting information with children and families. \nThe Hincks-Dellcrest – Gail Appel Institute offers advanced education to those who work with children and families in a variety of mental health care professions and provides resources to parents and caregivers to support them with their children’s mental health care needs.
