DESCRIPTION:Expanding on YPT’s successful in-person Toddler Drama Time pilot last year\, this online class will engage toddlers between the ages of 12 and 30 months. This is an interactive drama\, movement and music class for explorers who are on the move! We encourage hands on engagement between caregiver and toddler so everyone can play and have fun together. After the class there will also be an optional 15-minute free play time to continue connecting with other toddlers and parents after class. \nToddler Drama Time will be held online every Thursday from Feb. 4-25\, 2021 at 10AM for 30 minutes. On Saturday\, November 17\, we will be offering a free trial class so that students and caregivers alike can check out what all the excitement is about. Students in Grades 5-8 are welcome to join us at one of our Downtown locations\, Market Lane Public School\, from 1PM-2PM. \nFor questions or to register for our free trial class on November 17\, please email Drama School Coordinator\, Breanne Ritchie\, at britchie@youngpeoplestheatre.org. \nPlease note that although we encourage pre-registration for this trial class\, drop-in’s are welcome – we look forward  to seeing you there! \nClass Description:\nArtist Educators Lindy Kinoshameg from Wikwemikoong Unceded First Nation and Leslie McCue from Curve Lake First Nation\, will facilitate a new storytelling class that encompasses respect\, leadership and teamwork. Indigenous storytelling is deeply rooted in our connection with Mother Earth\, the water\, the plants and animals. Students will be invited to explore these themes through the telling of their own stories. In the Fall and Winter terms\, students will be introduced to the Indigenous tradition of oral storytelling\, including its history\, as well as how art\, movement and dance help weave the tales told. Students will develop active listening skills\, as well as their imagination and confidence.  The Spring term will culminate in a storytelling performance created and performed by the students. \nStudents will delve into:\n– Oral Storytelling histories and techniques\n– Awareness of Indigenous culture\, including an introduction to Indigenous dance\n– Investigating ways to make stories personal and powerful \nThese storytelling and drama skills will be developed through:\n– Respect\, Leadership\, and Teamwork\n– Sharing the space equally amongst participants\n– Confidence building\n– Creating an atmosphere of support and accountability
