SUMMARY:Interactive Theatre Techniques for Conflict Resolution
DESCRIPTION:During March 23’s Cultural Gym: Interactive Theatre Techniques for Conflict Resolution\, YPT Resident Artist Educator Greg Thomas will provide a lively and fun introduction to Augusto Boal’s Forum Theatre technique. Participants will learn the power of audience involvement and how drama can be used to help people make positive changes when faced with challenging real-life scenarios. \nDates:\nWed\, Mar 23rd – 6:00pm to 7:00pm\nWed\, Mar 30th – 6:00pm to 7:00pm\nWed\, April 6th – 6:00pm to 7:00pm\nWed\, April 13th – 6:00pm to 7:00pm \nParticipants:\nWe welcome children and adults to attend the program. This program is recommended for ages 12 and up. \nRegistration:\nCultural Gym sessions are PWYC (Pay What You Can) with a recommended donation of $2 per session. Space is limited. DESCRIPTION:Building Story Through Improv\nOur next session of Cultural Gym: Building Story Through Improv takes place Wednesday\, March 2nd. YPT’s Cultural Gym sessions offer an opportunity for both children and adults to exercise their creative muscles. Sessions introduce specific aspects of theatre and performance to help participants develop new drama-based skills. Five different sessions are offered throughout our 2015/16 season\, each with a unique focus and led by professional artists. Come challenge yourself in new ways and be part of an artistic community! \nSession #3: Building Story Through Improv with Herbie Barnes\nLearn the basic techniques of improvisation with YPT Resident Artist Educator\, Herbie Barnes. Sessions include ensemble-based exercises focussing on the creation and development of new characters and original stories. \nAbout Herbie Barnes:\nHerbie Barnes is an Anishnawbe theatre artist from Aundeck Omni Kaning on Manitoulin Island. Some of Herbie’s stage roles include Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit (YPT\, Manitoba Theatre for Young People\, Carousel Players)\, Norval Morrisseau in Copper Thunderbird (NAC)\, a Wickersham Brother in Seussical (MTYP)\, and Russell in Russell’s World (MTYP)\, which he also wrote. Herbie works in front of and behind the camera for film and television as an actor\, director and writer. As an artist-educator\, Herbie has facilitated programs for elementary- to university-aged students including a technique he developed called “Dropping the Mask”. \nParticipants:\nWe welcome children\, youth and adults to attend the program. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a participating adult. \nRegistration:\nCultural Gym sessions are PWYC (Pay What You Can) with a recommended donation of $2 per session. Space is limited. Pre-registration is recommended.
