DESCRIPTION:Parent Resources is a family drop-in centre in the South Riverdale neighbourhood that offers programs for infants\, children and caretakers/parents. YPT provides support to the organization by facilitating a year-long artist residency for children from 0-4 years of age\, with an average of 15 infants and toddlers at each session. The majority of the participants\, both caregivers and children\, are non-English speakers. For most programs we have a Parent Resources staff member assisting by translating our facilitation to the participants. Our 45-minute sessions take place at the centre on Mondays and explore a particular theme through reading\, dramatization\, song and craft making. DESCRIPTION:PA Day – Play in a Day\nYPT is running full-day workshops on PA Days in the TDSB/TCDSB. This full-day workshop is for children in Grades 1-3 and 4-6. It will run from 9:00am to 3:30pm. Early drop-off is available from 8:30am. These PA Day – Play in a Day sessions are being offered at the specially-discounted price of $40 per participant. \nFun drama exercises led by great artist educators\, culminating in a collaboratively-created “play in a day”! SUMMARY:Three Up
DESCRIPTION:Young People’s Theatre (YPT)\, Britain’s Action Transport Theatre (ATT) and the Australian Theatre for Young People (ATYP) are thrilled to partner together on Three Up\, a new international program for young writers aged 13-17. Four young people from the GTA with a passion for writing and interest in building their skills have been selected to be part of this five-month international collaboration. The Three Up program provides the opportunity for youth to reach beyond their own borders to build community with peers from the UK and Australia while working with professional\, local\, and international playwrights and facilitators. \nIn-person meetings will occur twice a month with the YPT facilitators and the four Canadian participants in attendance. The purpose of these meetings is to provide instruction on playwriting\, to discuss the ongoing collaborative work with their international partners\, to monitor progress and to share completed works. The five-month training program will culminate with the writers collaboratively creating a script with a counterpart from each of the other participating countries. \nMeeting Dates:\nWednesdays meetings (6pm to 8pm) will occur on the following dates: \nJanuary – Jan 6\, 2016 and Jan 27\, 2016\nFebruary – Feb 10\, 2016 and Feb 24\, 2016\nMarch – Mar 9\, 2016 and Mar 30\, 2016\nApril – April 13\, 2016 and April 27\, 2016\nMay/June – May 11\, 2016 and June 1\, 2016

DESCRIPTION:YPT is working in partnership with the SickKids Family Programs team to design The YPT Reading Room Residency\, a series of weekly workshops focused on creative play for children from 0-6 years of age. This artist residency will consist of 45-minute sessions delivered weekly. Led by an YPT Resident Artist Educator\, each YPT Reading Room Residency session will explore a particular theme through reading\, dramatization\, song and craft making. The premise of each session will align with the hospital-wide themes set by the Family Programming staff. The YPT Reading Room Residency will seek to enhance and integrate learning and literacy among young children by using drama and play as a source for creativity\, emotional expression and sensory stimulation. \nThe Reading Room program at SickKids is a daily drop-in program for children from 0-6 years of age in the Family Centre hosted by a resident therapeutic clown. The program is accessible to all children in the hospital including siblings of patients receiving treatment. Relaxed performances may include adjusted sound and lighting levels\, a designated relief area outside of the Mainstage theatre\, and additional support before and during your visit. When we held our first relaxed performance in the 2014/15 season\, we learned a great deal about how small changes and additions to the resources and environment provided can have a big impact. YPT’s relaxed performances are geared toward young people with ASD\, but are also suitable for all young audiences and can be an especially good introductory experience for first-time theatregoers. \n\n“I would like to thank YPT for taking on this initiative. At the relaxed performance I attended\, it was very exciting to see the kids and staff engage in such a safe and supportive environment. The thought and time put into the accommodations for those in the audience with ASD was very impressive. SUMMARY:Member School Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Member School Workshop\nYPT’s Jacob Two-Two Meets the Hooded Fang Member School Workshop is focused on exploring the following themes: child power and challenging injustice. YPT Resident Artist Educators work with students at the school to explore these themes through a series of dramatic exercises. With specific curriculum expectations in place\, these active workshops are designed to enhance students’ understanding and experience of Jacob Two-Two Meets the Hooded Fang. \nMember Schools program\nYPT’s Member Schools program aims to create a deeper relationship between participating schools and the theatre. YPT works with school leadership to create a three-year partnership agreement\, which is specifically tailored to the aims and needs of that particular school. Each partnership is different\, but all include increased attendance at the theatre\, enrichment for students and teachers\, as well as research with and by the participating school’s students and staff. We provide Member Schools with a special rate for tickets and enrichment programming\, allowing them to take full advantage of the many opportunities we offer. \nResident Artist Educators\nThe Resident Artist Educator program at YPT furthers the theatre’s leadership in the field of arts education at a professional theatre company. The Resident Artist-Educator Program is planned for each participant to be involved in YPT’s productions as well as work as a teaching artist in residence. As both artists and educators\, each participant creates\, teaches and learns during their residency thereby embodying the company’s dual identity as a professional theatre and centre of arts education. DESCRIPTION:The Cultural Gym\, YPT’s newest community program\, is an opportunity for both children and adults to exercise their creative muscles! Britta has written 5 full-length musicals including Big Box Story (Stratford Festival gala performance)\, Alligator Tears (commissioned by the Blyth Festival)\, and Life After (Paprika Festival). She was recently named playwright in Residence with Acting Up Stage Company. She has spent a season at the Stratford Festival as a music assistant and has had her work showcased at the Shaw Festival’s Lyric Canada conference. DESCRIPTION:The Three Up Application Deadline is 5:00pm on December 4\, 2015. \nYoung People’s Theatre (YPT)\, Britain’s Action Transport Theatre (ATT) and the Australian Theatre for Young People (ATYP) are thrilled to partner together on Three Up\, a new international program for young writers aged 13-17. YPT is looking for four young people from the GTA with a passion for writing and interest in building their skills to be part of this five-month international collaboration. The Three Up program provides the opportunity for youth to reach beyond their own borders to build community with peers from the UK and Australia while working with professional\, local\, and international playwrights and facilitators. \nWe are looking for participants for the Three Up program who:\n– Are between the ages of 13 -17.\n– Have experience and interest with creative writing (plays\, poems\, short stories\, etc.)\n– Have an interest in building international creative collaborations.\n– Are able to commit to attend all in-person sessions at YPT for the duration of the program (twice a month).\n– Are able to commit a minimum of four hours a week to independent writing and/or correspondence with international writing partners.\n– Have access to the internet\, a personal email address and permission to use a Facebook account to access our closed Facebook group. \nMeeting Dates:\nIn-person sessions will take place twice a month at YPT (165 Front Street E\, Toronto) with YPT facilitators and the four Canadian participants. Get a sneak-peek at our greenroom and take in a bird’s eye-view from our lighting booth. Our Behind-the-Scenes Tours give patrons a unique experiential learning opportunity to discover what goes into the making of a production and the operation of a professional theatre. Patrons will have the chance to see all the backstage action and the opportunity speak directly with our staff about the life and history of our theatre.

SUMMARY:School Workshop
DESCRIPTION:School Workshop\nYPT’s Jacob Two-Two Meets the Hooded Fang school workshop is focused on exploring the following themes: child power and challenging injustice. YPT Resident Artist Educators work with students at the school to explore these themes through a series of dramatic exercises. With specific curriculum expectations in place\, these active workshops are designed to enhance students’ understanding and experience of Jacob Two-Two Meets the Hooded Fang. \nYPT offers a wide selection of workshops for schools. For students\, these workshops are designed to provide a deeper understanding of a particular theme or arts practice\, enhance the theatre-going experience\, and provide the opportunity to actively engage in creative drama. \nEducation & Participation School Workshops\nYPT offers a wide selection of workshops for schools. For students\, these workshops are designed to provide a deeper understanding of a particular theme or arts practice\, enhance the theatre-going experience\, and provide the opportunity to actively engage in creative drama. \nResident Artist Educators\nThe Resident Artist Educator program at YPT furthers the theatre’s leadership in the field of arts education at a professional theatre company. The Resident Artist-Educator Program is planned for each participant to be involved in YPT’s productions as well as work as a teaching artist in residence. As both artists and educators\, each participant creates\, teaches and learns during their residency thereby embodying the company’s dual identity as a professional theatre and centre of arts education. DESCRIPTION:As part of our 50th Anniversary celebrations\, YPT is holding a special event for new audience members – and for those who have not visited us in a while: Come Meet the Theatre! \nMeet the Theatre\nWe know that for many audience members\, and especially first-time theatre-goers\, the opportunity to visit YPT in advance can help make their first show a more comfortable and engaging experience. This welcome event is an introduction to YPT. It will include a behind-the-scenes tour and the opportunity to visit the Mainstage to explore specific technical elements – sound\, lights\, costumes\, set pieces and props used for our current production of Jacob Two-Two Meets the Hooded Fang. Meet the Theatre will be led by staff from our Education & Participation Department. \nAdmission is FREE\, but space is limited. DESCRIPTION:Backstage Tour\nBackstage Tour by various YPT staff members\, we offer “Tours for a Toonie”\, a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to mount a production. After watching the show\, participants are led though our shops (Props\, Wardrobe\, and Scene shop)\, through the lighting and sound booth and occasionally backstage. SUMMARY:Professional Development for Teachers
DESCRIPTION:“Let’s Get it Together” presented by OSSTF District 13 and Durham District School Board \nIn this workshop\, teachers\, students and members of Young People’s Theatre (YPT) will discuss the collaborative partnership between YPT and Pine Ridge Secondary School and the ways in which programming through the Member Schools program at YPT has allowed both the school and theatre to benefit. In this session\, we will share a number of case studies which outline specific strategies employed to support both student and teacher learning\, leadership and development in the context of arts education. We will discuss the success of a co-created student theatre youth group. We will share particular examples that speak to the value of addressing difficult and pertinent subjects in partnership with the professional arts. We will demonstrate the ways in which this work has allowed for interdisciplinary collaboration between staff and students within the school. This workshop will include a backstage tour of the theatre\, an active learning session with one of YPT’s Resident Artist Educators and the opportunity to speak with industry professionals.
