SUMMARY:Playwriting Festival Session
DESCRIPTION:Playwriting Festival Session\nWith this festival\, YPT aims to deepen the engagement of our Member Schools. With a focus on playwriting\, students will discover and share their own voice and will practically apply what they learn by creating short plays of their own. These plays will then be shared with their peers\, teachers\, families and artists in a culminating festival day. Through facilitated sessions\, small group instruction and collaborative exploration with peers\, students will learn and develop their own work. They will employ strategies from the writing process and will use ensemble-based dramatic exercises to develop their own short plays. Students will also reflect on and discuss their learning experiences through online journaling throughout the process. \nMember School: St. Sylvester\, Grades 5&6. \nMember Schools\nYPT’s Member Schools program aims to create a deeper relationship between participating schools and the theatre. YPT works with school leadership to create a three-year partnership agreement specifically tailored to the aims and needs of that particular school. Each partnership is different but all include increased attendance at the theatre\, enrichment for students and teachers\, as well as research with and by the participating school’s students and staff. We provide Member Schools with a special rate for tickets and enrichment programming\, thus allowing them to take full advantage of the many opportunities we offer.

SUMMARY:Artist Residency
DESCRIPTION:The Syme Woolner Family Resources Drop-In Centre provides parents and caregivers of young children (0-6 yrs old) with a dedicated drop-in area where they can interact with their children in a safe\, caring and nurturing environment. Both children and parents/caregivers are encouraged to participate in a variety of skill building and social activities that help the growth of the child. YPT provides support to the organization by facilitating a weekly artist residency for children from 0-6 years of age\, with an average of 20 infants and toddlers at each session. The majority of the participants\, both caregivers and children\, are non-English speakers. Our 45 minute sessions take place at the centre on Mondays and explore a particular theme through reading\, dramatization\, song and craft making. The program seeks to enhance and integrate learning and literacy among young children by enabling the use of creativity\, emotional expression and sensory stimulation. \nThis is a program of The Ada Slaight Education Centre at YPT\, established through a generous donation from The Slaight Family Foundation and The Del Bello Family. \nFor more information about Syme Woolner Family Resources Drop-in Centre please visit: http://www.symewoolner.org/programs/dept-of-children-and-youth/

SUMMARY:Artist Residency
DESCRIPTION:YPT is working in partnership with the SickKids Family Programs team to design The YPT Reading Room Residency\, a series of weekly workshops focused on creative play for children from 0-6 years of age. This artist residency will consist of 45-minute sessions delivered weekly. Led by an YPT Resident Artist Educator\, each YPT Reading Room Residency session will explore a particular theme through reading\, dramatization\, song and craft making. The premise of each session will align with the hospital-wide themes set by the Family Programming staff. The YPT Reading Room Residency will seek to enhance and integrate learning and literacy among young children by using drama and play as a source for creativity\, emotional expression and sensory stimulation. \nThe Reading Room program at SickKids is a daily drop-in program for children from 0-6 years of age in the Family Centre hosted by a resident therapeutic clown. The program is accessible to all children in the hospital including siblings of patients receiving treatment. Every session of the Reading Room is broadcast live on the hospitals closed circuit system allowing any child to watch and participate wherever they are in the hospital and regardless of their physical health or ability. \nTo read more about The Family Centre at SickKids read here: http://www.sickkids.ca/ProgramsandServices/centre-for-innovation-and-excellence/Family-Centre/index.html
