The symptoms of BPD include mood swings\, feelings of emptiness and loneliness\, inability to tolerate being alone\, relationship difficulties\, problems with eating\, and substance abuse. Parents\, teachers and child development professionals will find these learning experiences filled with practical skills that can promote the well-being of children and improve the lives of families. \nThe Hincks-Dellcrest – Gail Appel Institute offers advanced education to those who work with children and families in a variety of mental health care professions and provides resources to parents and caregivers to support them with their children’s mental health care needs. Their mission is to build knowledge and capacity in children and families’ mental health. \nThe Hincks-Dellcrest Treatment Centre is a leading edge\, non-profit children’s mental health centre offering a comprehensive range of innovative mental health services to infants\, children\, youth\, and their families. Our vision is to bring hope\, optimism\, and possibilities to the children and families we serve. \nAll Parent Seminars run on the following schedule:\n6:30 PM – 7:00 PM: Doors open/registration\n7:00 PM – 8:30 PM: Presentation\n8:30 PM – 9:00 PM: Networking and book signing \nWorkshop participants can look forward to practical\, easy-to-implement strategies and creative approaches for parents that teach and encourage responsibility\, self-motivation\, and resiliency. There will be an emphasis on what is already working in our parenting. Participants will also share ideas for encouraging children to be solution builders in their own lives. \nFor more information or to register please visit: www.hincksdellcrest.org/institute

SUMMARY:Relaxed Performance of Goodnight Moon
DESCRIPTION:This Relaxed Performance of Goodnight Moon is specifically designed for young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Relaxed performances may include adjusted sound and lighting levels\, a designated relief area outside of the Mainstage theatre\, and additional support before and during your visit. \nWhen we held our first relaxed performance in the 2014/15 season\, we learned a great deal about how small changes and additions to the resources and environment provided can have a big impact. YPT’s relaxed performances are geared toward young people with ASD\, but are also suitable for all young audiences and can be an especially good introductory experience for first-time theatregoers. \n\n“I would like to thank YPT for taking on this initiative. At the relaxed performance I attended\, it was very exciting to see the kids and staff engage in such a safe and supportive environment. The thought and time put into the accommodations for those in the audience with ASD was very impressive. Parents and teachers bringing children with ASD to these performances should feel very confident that their experience will be very positive. This programming is an incredible opportunity to support all kids in the way that all kids need to learn!” \n    – Jan Fukumoto\,  Co-ordinator Autism Services\, Special Education\,\nToronto District School Board \n\nVisitors may find it helpful to watch this “Visiting YPT” video prior to attendance! \nRelaxed Performances Resources Booklet\nIf having difficulty downloading the resource booklet\, please right-click and save it to your desktop. \n \n  \n\nIn order to book your tickets\, please call our Box Office at 416.862.2222. \nFor more information\, contact Lois Adamson\, Member Schools & Education Manager at 416.363.5131 x224 or email ladamson@youngpeoplestheatre.org. \nTo visit the Goodnight Moon show page\, click here. \nTo visit YPT in advance of seeing Goodnight Moon\, register for Meet the Theatre on February 15th\, Family Day.

SUMMARY:Playwriting Festival Session
DESCRIPTION:Playwriting Festival Session\nWith this festival\, YPT aims to deepen the engagement of our Member Schools. With a focus on playwriting\, students will discover and share their own voice and will practically apply what they learn by creating short plays of their own. These plays will then be shared with their peers\, teachers\, families and artists in a culminating festival day. Through facilitated sessions\, small group instruction and collaborative exploration with peers\, students will learn and develop their own work. They will employ strategies from the writing process and will use ensemble-based dramatic exercises to develop their own short plays. Students will also reflect on and discuss their learning experiences through online journaling throughout the process. \nMember School: St. Sylvester\, Grades 5&6. \nMember Schools\nYPT’s Member Schools program aims to create a deeper relationship between participating schools and the theatre. SUMMARY:Artist Residency
DESCRIPTION:Through its Artist Residency\, YPT supports The Syme Woolner Family Resources Drop-In Centre\, which provides parents and caregivers of young children (0-6 yrs old) with a dedicated area where they can interact with their children in a safe\, caring and nurturing environment. Both children and parents/caregivers are encouraged to participate in a variety of skill building and social activities that help the growth of the child. YPT helps facilitate this weekly artist residency for children (there is an average of 20 infants and toddlers at each session). The majority of the participants\, both caregivers and children\, are non-English speakers. \nOur 45 minute sessions take place at the centre on Mondays and explore a particular theme through reading\, dramatization\, song and craft making. The program seeks to enhance and integrate learning and literacy among young children by enabling the use of creativity\, emotional expression and sensory stimulation. \nYPT’s Artist Residency is a program of The Ada Slaight Education Centre at YPT\, established through a generous donation from The Slaight Family Foundation and The Del Bello Family. \nFor more information about Syme Woolner Family Resources Drop-in Centre please visit: http://www.symewoolner.org/programs/dept-of-children-and-youth/
