DESCRIPTION:James and the Giant Peach – Family Day Drama Workshop\nJoin us on Monday\, February 20 for a pre-show drama workshop for the whole family! Led by Resident Artist Educator Ramona Gilmour–Darling\, participants will learn about the story of James and the Giant Peach and work together to create new Roald Dahl-inspired characters and worlds! \nThe workshop fee is $5 per participant. Pre-registration is required\, and space is limited. As a director\, Nobody’s Idol (Toronto Fringe)\, Weightless (Alumnae Theatre)\, Forever Plaid (TIP and Victoria Playhouse Petrolia)\, assistant director for Freedom 85 (Theatre Orangeville)\, Blood Brothers (TIP)\, The Sisters Rosensweig (Harold Green Jewish Theatre)\, and choreographer for Suds!\, Little Shop of Horrors\, Blood Brothers (TIP).  Ramona played Loonette the Clown on Treehouse TV’s The Big Comfy Couch (Radical Sheep)\, Covert Affairs (U.C.P.)\, System Crash (YTV).  Ramona is happily 2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2 years old. \n  \n  \nThis is a program of The Ada Slaight Education Centre at YPT established through a generous donation from The Slaight Family Foundation.

DESCRIPTION:The Reading Room Program at SickKids\nRanger Ray\, Therapeutic Clown at SickKids & Ramona Gilmour-Darling\, YPT Resident Artist Educator.\nYPT works in partnership with the SickKids Family Programs team to facilitate The YPT Reading Room Residency\, a series of weekly workshops focused on creative play for children from 0-6 years of age. This residency is based on another program run by YPT with Parent Resources\, a family drop-in centre located in East Toronto. The residency consists of weekly hour-long sessions delivered over six to eight weeks. Led by an YPT Resident Artist Educator\, each YPT Reading Room Residency session explores a particular theme through reading\, dramatization\, song and craft making. The premise of each session aligns with the hospital-wide themes set by the Family Programming staff. The YPT Reading Room Residency  seeks to enhance and integrate learning and literacy among young children by using drama and play as a source for creativity\, emotional expression and sensory stimulation. \nThe Reading Room program at SickKids is a daily drop-in program for children from 0-6 years of age in the Family Centre hosted by a resident therapeutic clown. The program is accessible to all children in the hospital\, including siblings of patients receiving treatment. Every session of the Reading Room is broadcast live on the hospitals closed circuit system allowing any child to watch and participate wherever they are in the hospital and regardless of their physical health or ability.

DESCRIPTION:Artist Educators Training\nThursday\, February 2 & Friday\, February 3\, 2017\nYoung People’s Theatre\n9am-4pm \nProgram Details: \nThe YPT Artist Educators Training is open to all artists interested in arts education and with a desire to further develop their pedagogical skills through practical training. \nThe first day is comprised of several modules\, each with a particular focus. These include: \n•      lesson planning\,\n•      fostering authentic engagement\,\n•      developing techniques for classroom management\,\n•      connecting learning to a specific text or arts experience\, and\n•      creating ensemble-based exercises. \nThe second day begins with refining the participants’ plans and culminates in putting what they have created into action by facilitating workshops for children and young people. Throughout\, participants will work alongside one another and in concert with the invited youth to reflect on what makes an engaging workshop. \nBoth novice and experienced Artist Educators are welcome. This residency is based on another program run by YPT with Parent Resources\, a family drop-in centre located in East Toronto. The residency consists of weekly hour-long sessions delivered over six to eight weeks. Led by an YPT Resident Artist Educator\, each YPT Reading Room Residency session explores a particular theme through reading\, dramatization\, song and craft making. The premise of each session aligns with the hospital-wide themes set by the Family Programming staff. The YPT Reading Room Residency  seeks to enhance and integrate learning and literacy among young children by using drama and play as a source for creativity\, emotional expression and sensory stimulation. \nThe Reading Room program at SickKids is a daily drop-in program for children from 0-6 years of age in the Family Centre hosted by a resident therapeutic clown. The program is accessible to all children in the hospital\, including siblings of patients receiving treatment. Every session of the Reading Room is broadcast live on the hospitals closed circuit system allowing any child to watch and participate wherever they are in the hospital and regardless of their physical health or ability.

DESCRIPTION:Three Up\nInternational Youth Playwriting Program\nYoung People’s Theatre (YPT)\, Britain’s Action Transport Theatre (ATT) and the Australian Theatre for Young People (ATYP) are thrilled to partner for the second year on Three Up\, an international program for young writers aged 13-17. YPT is looking for four young people from the GTA with a passion for writing and interest in building their skills to be part of this six month international collaboration.
