SUMMARY:Boys With Cars - A Forum
DESCRIPTION:Boys With Cars – A Forum\nJoin us Wednesday\, March 8\, 2017\n6PM to 8PM\nYoung People’s Theatre (165 Front Street East) \nON THE MAINSTAGE MAR 23-APR 1\, 2017\nRECOMMENDED FOR GRADES 8 TO 12 | AGES 13 & UP\n\nBoys With Cars explores issues around unchecked male privilege\, female empowerment and what constitutes consent – important subject matter to consider in these turbulent times. Contrasting the experiences of a South Asian-Canadian high school girl trying desperately to fit in with the life of the popular girl who seems to have everything\, the show offers a compelling fusion of dynamic theatre and classical Indian dance. Boys With Cars is adapted for young audiences from Anita Majumdar’s acclaimed solo plays\, The Fish Eyes Trilogy. \nThe forum is intended for adult stakeholders in both the education and artistic communities – parents\, educators\, college and university students\, administrators\, artists and arts workers – interested in taking part in this discussion. \nThe platform for dialogue at the forum will be set by youth engaged in Education & Participation programs at YPT. Their questions and responses to the play will be the launchpad for discussion with Boys With Cars writer\, choreographer and performer Anita Majumdar and subject experts\, including Dr. Lance McCready (Associate Professor\, Leadership\, Higher & Adult Education\, OISE/UT)\, Kim Snider (Gender Studies Teacher at Rosedale Heights School of the Arts) and representatives from Planned Parenthood Toronto. Together they will explore pertinent themes in the show from the critical perspectives of young people. \n6PM – 6:30PM Reception\n6:30PM – 7:15PM Facilitated Discussion\n7:15PM – 8PM Panel Discussion \nLight refreshments will be provided. This event is free of charge\, but space is limited.\nPlease register here by Friday\, March 3\, 2017.

DESCRIPTION:James and the Giant Peach Post-Show Q&A \nFriday\, March 3\, 2017\n10:15AM Performance \nRecognizing that the most common assignment given to students in connection with their visit to YPT is a play review\, we developed\, in collaboration with Jon Kaplan of NOW Magazine\, a post-show Q&A specifically about the art of writing reviews. Jon Kaplan also provides a short paragraph in each of our study guides entitled “Tips for Student Reviewers”. In 2015/16\, we built on the success of these sessions and engaged a student reviewer\, Sayak Sneddon-Ghosal\, to facilitate these sessions. Sayak\, a Grade 8 student\, will continue facilitating the sessions in 2016/17. \nJames and the Giant Peach \nWords and Music by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul\nBook by Timothy Allen McDonald\nBased on the book James and the Giant Peach\nby Roald Dahl\nDirected by Nina Lee Aquino \nOn the Mainstage Feb. 6-Mar. 18\, 2017 including March Break!\nJOIN US FOR FAMILY DAY ON FEB. 20 – INCLUDES FREE CRAFT ACTIVITIES!\nRecommended for Grades 1 to 6 | ages 6 & up\nRuns approx. 85 min.\nThis rollicking musical version of the beloved children’s classic returns due to overwhelming demand after a nearly sold-out run in 2014.
