SUMMARY:What If Romeo & Juliet... - Relaxed Performance
DESCRIPTION:What If Romeo & Juliet… – Relaxed Performance\nRelaxed Performances are well-suited to all young audiences and have been established to welcome people who will benefit from a more relaxed performance environment\, including people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). They can also be a good introductory experience for first-time theatregoers. The performance itself is unchanged\, but there is a more relaxed attitude to noise and movement. The house lights in the theatre are also adjusted\, so that it is not quite as dark as usual. There are also additional supports before and during the show including a designated relief area that can be used throughout your visit to take a break or watch the performance on video. \nAs part of this initiative\, YPT has created a video as well as a Visual Guide that provide a detailed description of what it’s like to visit the theatre. Patrons often find it helpful to review these with the young people they are bringing\, prior to attending a performance. \nTo learn about What If Romeo & Juliet…\, click here.

SUMMARY:Selfie: A Forum
DESCRIPTION:Selfie: A Forum\nJoin us Monday\, March 26\, 2018\n6PM-8PM\nYoung People’s Theatre (165 Front Street East) \nDescription of Selfie \nThe first party of the school year comes packed with expectations. It’s a time to renew old friendships and perhaps find new love. But what happens when an incident shatters the connections between three friends? Teenage relationships are complicated enough – especially when you add the reckless power of social media. This smart and intense play delves bravely into the nature of sexual consent. \nThe forum is intended for adult stakeholders in both the education and artistic communities – parents\, educators\, college and university students\, administrators\, artists and arts workers – interested in taking part in this discussion. \nPrior to the forum\, young people engaged in YPT’s Education & Participation programs generated a number of discussion points around the issues of consent. These will be the platform for the dialogue at this forum and the launch pad for discussions with subject experts in the field. Participants will learn strategies for leading conversations about consent with young people both in school and community settings. Through open exchange and dialogue\, we will explore pertinent themes in the show including: \n\nunderstanding consent\nnegotiating changing relationships\naccountability\n\n6PM-6:10PM Welcome & Reception\n6:10PM-6:50PM Panel Discussions\n6:50PM-7:45PM Group Facilitated Discussions\n7:45PM-8PM Final thoughts & Closing Remarks \nLight refreshments will be provided.\nAdmission is free\, but space is limited. \nTo register click here or call 416.862.2222 x2. \n  \nIN THE STUDIO APR. 23 – MAY 11\, 2018\nRECOMMENDED FOR GRADES 8 TO 12 | AGES 13 & UP \nWritten by Christine Quintana\nDirected by Stephen Colella\nBased on the original French language version

If they did\, I imagine you’d spend your days looking upward\, arms wide open to catch them. It was energizing and inspiring.”\n– RAE and playwright of Hana’s Suitcase\, Emil Sher \n\n
