SUMMARY:Mary Poppins - Relaxed Performance
DESCRIPTION:Mary Poppins – Relaxed Performance\nRelaxed Performances are well-suited to all young audiences and have been established to welcome people who will benefit from a more relaxed performance environment\, including people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). They can also be a good introductory experience for first-time theatregoers. The performance itself is unchanged\, but there is a more relaxed attitude to noise and movement. The house lights in the theatre are also adjusted\, so that it is not quite as dark as usual. There are also additional supports before and during the show including a designated relief area that can be used throughout your visit to take a break or watch the performance on video. \nAs part of this initiative\, YPT has created a video as well as a Visual Guide that provide a detailed description of what it’s like to visit the theatre. Patrons often find it helpful to review these with the young people they are bringing\, prior to attending a performance. \nTo learn about Mary Poppins\, click here.

SUMMARY:Relaxed Performance of Jacob Two-Two Meets the Hooded Fang
DESCRIPTION:These performances are specifically designed for young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Relaxed performances may include adjusted sound and lighting levels\, a designated relief area outside of the Mainstage theatre\, and additional support before and during your visit. When we held our first relaxed performance in the 2014/15 season\, we learned a great deal about how small changes and additions to the resources and environment provided can have a big impact. YPT’s relaxed performances are geared toward young people with ASD\, but are also suitable for all young audiences and can be an especially good introductory experience for first-time theatregoers. \n\n“I would like to thank YPT for taking on this initiative. At the relaxed performance I attended\, it was very exciting to see the kids and staff engage in such a safe and supportive environment. The thought and time put into the accommodations for those in the audience with ASD was very impressive. Parents and teachers bringing children with ASD to these performances should feel very confident that their experience will be very positive. This programming is an incredible opportunity to support all kids in the way that all kids need to learn!” \n    – Jan Fukumoto\,  Co-ordinator Autism Services\, Special Education\,\nToronto District School Board \n\nVisitors may find it helpful to watch this “Visiting YPT” video prior to attendance! \nIn order to book your tickets\, please call our Box Office at 416.862.2222. \nFor more information\, contact Lois Adamson\, Member Schools & Education Manager at 416.363.5131 x224 or email ladamson@youngpeoplestheatre.org.
