SUMMARY:Cultural Gym: Creating Character Through Movement
DESCRIPTION:Cultural Gym: Creating Character Through Movement\nAn actor’s instrument is their body. In this fun and lively workshop YPT Resident Artist Educator Melinda Little will introduce physical theatre techniques to explore how your body can be a fantastic resource for creating a character. \nDate:\nWed\, March 23rd – 6:00pm to 7:00pm \nParticipants:\nWe welcome children and adults to attend the program. This program is recommended for ages 12 and up. \nRegistration:\nCultural Gym sessions are PWYC (Pay What You Can) with a recommended donation of $2 per session. Space is limited. Pre-registration is recommended. To register please contact Amber Ebert\, School & Community Programs Manager at aebert@youngpeoplestheatre.org by 12:00 Noon on the date you would like to attend. \n \nAbout Melinda Little:\nMelinda is thrilled to be working at Young People’s Theatre as a Resident Artist Educator. She is an actor\, movement specialist and writer. As an actor Melinda has worked with many companies across Canada including Theatre Passe Muraille\, Tarragon Theatre\, Theatre Direct and Carousel Players among many others. Melinda is a Laban Movement Specialist and has taught movement and created theatre with students across the GTA through Te-Amim\, a tolerance education organization\, as well as at the Stratford Festival’s Birmingham Conservatory\, the University of Waterloo\, Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts\, Sheridan College and Second City. She holds a Masters in Movement Studies from the Central School of Speech and Drama and has also written two plays\, Shiksas Sit Shiva (with Catherine Hayos) which won Patron’s Pick\, Best Production and Ensemble at the Toronto Fringe\, and The Peace Line. She was a member of the Tarragon Theatre’s Playwright’s Unit and an inaugural member of Buddies in Bad Times Ante Chamber writing series. She is currently creating a new physical theatre piece entitled Flow. \nThis is a program of The Ada Slaight Education Centre at YPT\, established through a generous donation from The Slaight Family Foundation.
