Three Up

International Youth Playwriting Program

Young People’s Theatre (YPT) is thrilled to partner with two other theatre companies in the UK and Australia on Three Up, an international online program for young writers. YPT is looking for four young people from the GTA with a passion for writing and interest in building their skills to be part of this 9-week international collaboration. The Three Up program provides the opportunity for youth to reach beyond their own borders to build community with peers from the UK and Australia while working with professional, local and international playwrights and facilitators.

Call for Applications

We are looking for participants for the Three Up program who:

  • are between the ages of 13 -18,
  • have experience with and interest in creative writing (plays, poems, short stories, etc.),
  • have an interest in building international creative collaborations,
  • are able to commit to attend all online sessions (schedule included below).

Three Up Program Schedule

Online Sessions:
Online sessions for Canadian participants will take place on Thursdays from 6PM to 8PM on the following dates:
March 18 & 25, 2021
April 1, 8, 22 & 29, 2021
May 6, 2021

There will also be two collaborative, online sessions with all international participants on Saturday, April 10 and Saturday, May 22 from 8:30-10:30AM EST.

Online meetings will occur with YPT facilitators and the four Canadian participants. The purpose of these meetings will be to provide instruction on playwriting, discuss ongoing collaborative work with international partners, and write new material in this ongoing collaborative play.

How to Apply:

Complete and submit the Three Up Program Application Form along with two writing samples.

All applications will be reviewed and assessed by YPT’s Community Programs Manager and YPT’s Associate Artistic Director & Dramaturg. Applications will be assessed for merit, potential and writing craft.

Deadline for the Three Up Program Application is 5PM EST on February 19, 2021.
